“Before the world was formed, the gods were eating, drinking and having fun in another realm. In this realm, the great ancestors, hybrid forms of the animals we know here on earth lived with the gods. One of the goddesses asked for permission and secretly went to milk the ancestor cow as she did every day, and then to feed her twin babies with that milk. This was secret because the other gods did not know about the fertility of the ancestor cow. The goddess started to milk the ancestor cow, the milk flowed as she milked, as it flowed, the goddess got faster, and as she fed the milk, the babies of our goddess grew, swelled, and became round. As they rolled, they got rounder, rounder and rounder, and finally the twins became a big round. One of them remained watery, the other one solidified from the yeast of the milk. The last drop of the milk of the ancestor cow fell not on the twins, but on the space right next to them. As it waited, it fermented, swelled up, and turned into a mouldy cheese glowing in the darkness. Thus, the moon became the leaven of the world, and the world made room for many living things in it thanks to the moon.” Beyza Durhan
